Divine Infancy

  1. The Kingdom With Us and Among Us

Peter begins our Advent series with a look at the fact that Jesus was born into a web of relationships and culture, in which God was already working.

2. Growing Slowly

Jeremy talks about the way that after the miracle of the incarnation, Jesus submitted himself to the normal processes of human growth and development, and what that means for our lives.

3. The Humble Christ

Jeremy and Peter talk about the God who came humbly, and how we're called to follow in his footsteps.

4. The Gift of Limitations

Jeremy wraps up our advent series, reflecting on the fact that Jesus voluntarily subjected himself to many of the same limitations we face.

Transformed

Soon-to-be Associate Pastor Peter Kobunski shared thoughts on Romans 12:1-2, tying together our gratitude (on Thanksgiving Sunday) with our discipleship.

2. Spiritual Health

Jeremy shares the underlying movement of the spiritual life, based on the story of the Prodigal son.

3. The Battlefield of The Mind

What happens in our thought-life deeply affects the way we live. God wants to transform us by the renewing of our minds. This week we discuss the constant mental battle between truth and lies, and how this is the primary plane on which "spiritual" warfare happens.

Discipleship

1. Fully Devoted or Part of the Crowd?

Jeremy begins a new series on discipleship by examining what it means to be a disciple, and challenging us to ask whether we are (still) a disciple, or just part of the crowd that surrounds Jesus.

2. The Role of Discipline

Brad Rose shares about the essential role that discipline plays as we seek to follow Jesus.

3. The Easy and the Hard

Following Jesus is both the easiest and hardest thing you'll ever do. Easy, because he promises to relieve us from the heavy burdens we're carrying, and give us a "yoke" that is light. Hard, because he also calls us to take up our crosses and die to ourselves.

A Growing Church

1. Prayer and Preparation

April 8, 2018 - MCC Sunday Service

2. The Wind of the Spirit

3. Staying Small

Jeremy talks about the challenges of growing larger as a church and how the early church faced them. As we grow, we too need to move into homes and smaller groups in order to experience "koinonia"--the sense of partnership and belonging that is so important to a church community.

4. Signs and Wonders

Jeremy talks about the role of miracles and healing in the early church, and discusses whether there is still room for those things to happen in our church, today.

It is at this council that the church chooses the trajectory of flexibility and inclusivity that has allowed it to become a wold-changing force across many cultures and contexts.

9. Becoming Missional Where You Are

Guest speaker Brad Rose (director of Young Life Muskoka) shares from Acts 17 about how to share your faith in a way that connects with people today.

10. God's Call

Jeremy talks about the importance for all of us to find out what God is calling us to do--even if it's as simple as just being who he has called us to be, where we are. Liz Angell then shares her story of responding to God's call to start the Circles program for those in poverty in Muskoka.

11. Responding to the Message

At the heart of a growing church are people who are responding to the message of Jesus with open hearts and changed lives. Jeremy looks at Acts 16 to explore what happens when someone becomes a Christian, along with the outward sign of this change, baptism.

12. Passionate Generosity

An underlying theme in the book of Acts and the story of the early church was the incredible, passionate generosity of everyday people that made it all possible. Jeremy shared about how some of that was inspired by a sense that God was at work, and some of it was rooted in a deeply held value of generosity within Christianity's Jewish roots.
